Comparison: Audi Q7 New vs Old - How Different

Review Comparison : Audi 2nd versus 1st Generation
Audi's New Q7 vs Old Q7
The second generation Audi Q7 crossover for the year 2015-2016 is here. A casual look at the new SUV may not reveal much as majority of changes have been made under the skin. So to help you put things in perspective we have created a pictorial comparison between New Audi Q7 versus Old Audi Q7.

Audi Q7 Exterior: New Vs Old
Audi has not played much with its trademark conservative design approach while building the new version of its flagship SUV. There is nothing revolutionary about the exterior of the 2016 Q7 when compared with the earlier generation. But yes it does look sleeker and more youthful than before.

The designers at Audi managed to make it appears lower, wider and longer giving it a more wagon like look even though it is 1.5 inches shorter, 0.6 inch narrower and of same height.

This has been made possible with help of innovative design elements like lowering the front end of the new Q7 to make it appear less massive than the 1st gen model. Other styling cues include a sharper rendition of Audi's hexagonal shaped single frame radiator grille (as on face-lifted Audi Q3), a gently tapering roofline making the SUV appear lower than before and a more pronounced side profile crease giving it a more chiseled look.

Q7’s front and rear appear more edgy in comparison to the rounded looks of the outgoing model. The headlight housing has been completely redesigned into a more angular design packed with matrix LED clusters similar to those on the Audi TT. The LED DRLs inside the head lamp are shaped like a double arrow, lending it a sharper look. Taillights have become rectangular and now come with dynamic turn signals. Also new at the back is the redesigned license plate enclosure and the twin exhaust unit which is now rectangular. The wide tailgate has been carried over from the previous model.

Overall, the next generation Audi Q7 looks more macho than before but at the same time it has that pretty vibe to it, which is definitely new.

Audi Q7 Interior: New Vs Old
Audi claims that its 2016 SUV not only offers more headroom, but also features a longer cabin. There is an additional 0.8 inches between the first and second rows of seats, and head room has increased by 1.6 inches and 0.9 inches in the first and second rows, respectively.

One of the most striking differences between the old and the new Q7 is the all-new dashboard design giving it a virtual cockpit feel. It comes with a minimalist design theme with only a few buttons visible, a 7 inch screen that rises from the dash and Audi TT sports car inspired digital instrument cluster. All the drama is further enhanced by the VW Passat borrowed HVAC vent louver that appears to stretch through dashboard’s entire width even though the actual air openings are still in the usual locations.

Audi Q7 Hidden Changes: New Vs Old
Audi has successfully managed to lower the new Q7’s overall center of mass by 2 inches, thus greatly improving big SUV’s handling abilities. This has been achieved primarily by mounting the engine lower in the chassis in comparison to the first generation model.

Another significant improvement has been in reducing the wind resistance or the co-efficient of drag from 0.37 to 0.32. It has been largely achieved by fine tuning the exterior elements along with the underbody that’s almost completely lined. This makes the new Audi Q7 much more aerodynamic than the 1st generation model and more fuel efficient as well.

The 1st generation Q7 shared a platform with the Volkswagen Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne. But since it was never offered with a low-range transfer case, its off-road capabilities were always limited. For the new generation Q7, Audi has switched to Volkswagen’s latest MLB Evo platform. Infact Q7 is the first SUV to make use of this advance platform and this has enabled Audi to offer loads of comfort and assistance systems previously unavailable in the vehicle.

Thanks to the new lightweight MLB modular-longitudinal architecture along with the use of ultra-high-strength steel, and the extensive use of aluminum, the new Q7 is about 325 kilograms lighter in 3.0 TDI form than its predecessor. This makes it more agile on and off road as well as more fuel efficient.

2016 Audi Q7 comes with a new all-wheel steering system. This system uses an electric spindle to turn the rear wheels by as much as 5 degrees and helps enhance the steering response. At low speeds the rear wheels steer opposite the front wheels, making the vehicle easy to park while also reducing the turning radius by up to 3.3 feet. At higher speeds the rear wheels follow the movement of the front wheels to aid stability. Thus you can expect the new Audi Q7 to be more maneuverable in comparison to last generation model.

For the first time buyers will have an option to get their new Q7 in diesel plug-in hybrid mode along with conventional options. It will come with a 3.0-liter TDI V6, electric motor, and 17.3-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack. It’s the first plug-in to use a diesel V6 and all-wheel drive.

1st generation Audi Q7 crossover ruled the roads for almost 8 years. The new 2015-2016 Audi Q7 is better in every way. It rides on a new advance platform, is much lighter than before, has more cabin space with loads of technology fed into it and seems determined to conquer new frontiers.

Audi A5 Coupe UK Lineup Gets 2.0L TFSI Eco-Friend

Audi A5 2.0L TFSI Coupe Just like many other autmakers, Audi also wants to display its concern for environment. So it goes ahead and adds the new 2.0L TFSI to its A5 model range and will be available this August. The vehicles reported 42.8 mpg (36 mpg US) mileage in mixed driving definately boost its eco-friend credentials but don't worry, its also fun to drive. A5 2.0 TFSI generates 208 hp of power at 4300 rpm and torque of 258 lb-ft at 1500 rpm allowing it to hit 62 mph in a decent 6.9 seconds. And its all yours for £28,760. Check press release below for details.

PRESS RELEASE:
Latest Turbo FSI engine joins Audi coupé range and reiterates that fun and frugality are far from mutually exclusive A5 2.0 TFSI now available to order in front-wheel-drive or quattro all-wheel-drive forms priced at £28,760 OTR and £30,285 OTR – first deliveries in August. All-new Turbo FSI engine is based on 1.8 TFSI from new A4, but adds Audi valvelift technology for improved engine 'breathing' to maximise performance and efficiency.

A newly developed Turbo FSI petrol engine available from this week for the Audi A5 provides the sought-after coupe with yet another choice blend of pace and pence-per-mile efficiency. The new 211PS A5 2.0 TFSI can be ordered in either front-wheel-drive or quattro permanent all-wheel-drive forms for £28,760 OTR or £30,285 OTR, and will reach its first UK customers in August.

The new high-tech 2.0-litre unit is derived from the already much praised 1.8 TFSI engine introduced recently in A3, A4 and A5 models. It delivers 211PS from 4,300rpm and a very impressive 350Nm torque maximum from just 1,500rpm – more even than the 3.2-litre V6 FSI unit also powering A5 models. It enables the front-wheel-drive A5 2.0 TFSI with six-speed manual transmission to cover the 0-62mph sprint in 6.9 seconds, reach a top speed of 155mph and return up to 42.8mpg according to the combined cycle test. And despite doing full justice in performance terms to the purposeful styling of the A5, it also shows restraint where emissions are concerned, with an output of 154g/km for the front-wheel-drive version.

Standard specification for front-wheel-drive and quattro all-wheel-drive versions of the new A5 2.0 TFSI includes xenon headlamps with trademark LED strip daytime running lamps, 17-inch seven-spoke alloy wheels, 3-zone electronic climate control, a 10-speaker Concert CD audio system, full Milano leather upholstery and rear acoustic parking.

2009 Porsche Cayenne SUV To Get Diesel Power

2008 Porsche Cayenne SUV Photo Its coming and its here to stay. Porsche is going diesel. Now this is a big change considering the fact that Porsche is one of the few European automakers to have never offered a diesel option. The news is generating varied reactions. Well some people are definately happy and some are not but many are still undecided. But anyways Porsche has confirmed that it will offer a diesel powered version of Cayenne SUV by March 2009.

Many reasons have been put forward that could have compelled Porsche to say yes for the inclusion of diesel powertrains. First explanation is the stricter emissions laws coming in to Europe, which mandates carmakers reduce their fleet average carbon emissions. Second reason could be the rising fuel prices and also we can't ignore Porsche’s close relationship with Volkswagen, which put a number of diesel powerplants at its disposal.

Now you should not be expecting some of the larger diesel engines like the V12, V10 or V8. The reports suggest that the upcoming turbo diesel Cayenne will employ Audi's high performance 3.0-liter V-6 TDI. It's the same unit that features in Audi's Q7 and produces 240 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. Now if Q7 can sprint to 60mph in 8.5 sec, it won't be completely wrong to look for a similar performance from Cayenne's diesel version.

We expect 2009 Geneva auto show to be the debut venue for new Porsche Cayenne.

Audi To Debut 1939 Auto Union "Silver Arrow" Type D Reconstruction

Auto Union Audi Tradition is marking this year's Festival of Speed at Goodwood, England (July 11 to 13, 2008) with a world debut. At the largest classic car racing event in the world, the Ingolstadt company will be taking the wraps off an absolutely authentic reconstruction of the original Auto Union "Silverarrow" Type D Dual Compressor from 1939.

Construction of this racing car, the original version of which won two Grand Prix races at the hands of H.P. Müller and Tazio Nuvolari, took four years. The "Silverarrow" will be taken on its maiden drive by Nick Mason, the Pink Floyd drummer, in front of some 150,000 spectators at Goodwood.

The Auto Union Type D that is about to make its debut will be the last "Silverarrow" replica to be commissioned by Audi Tradition. Thomas Frank, Head of Audi Tradition, continued: "Our Auto Union Type D from 1938, which to a very large extent is made from original parts and has been exhibited at racetracks for a number of years, will go on display in the Audi museum mobile in the medium term. One reason for this decision is that we need to avoid it being damaged. The new replica will take its place. We will thus still be able to give people the extraordinary experience of witnessing this car in action."

In Nick Mason, Audi has found a worthy pilot for its maiden outing. The Pink Floyd drummer is a leading proponent of classic car racing in Great Britain. Mason has driven in the Le Mans 24 Hours on five occasions and is the proud owner of a notable collection of racing cars whose value is in the mid-range double-digit millions. He already drove an Auto Union racing car at Goodwood in 2007: the 1936 Type C. And he is really relishing the prospect of this year's competition: "I must have done something right last year if Audi Tradition is now prepared to let me take to the wheel for this maiden trip. But seriously, it's a huge honour, which I sincerely appreciate."

Audi's Prius-rivalling A3 1.9 TDIe Diesel Hatchback

2009 Audi A3 TDIe Audi has launched a new version of its A3, the Audi A3 1.9 TDIe hatch that offers fuel efficiency and carbon dioxide emissions similar to the Toyota Prius hybrid, the world’s most famous environmentally friendly car. A3's 1.9 TDIe is developed to meet Europe's proposed 2012 CO2 emissions target of 120 grams/kilometer, roughly equivalent to 52 mpg on the highway in the U.S.

Audi’s first ‘e’ model already beats that target thanks to a number of mechanical and aerodynamic tweaks that reduce the regular A3 Sportback 1.9 TDI model’s fuel consumption (from 4.9 to 4.5L/100km) and emissions (from 128 to 119g/km). That compares favourably with the Toyota Prius’s figures of 4.4L/100km and 104g/100km.

A 5-speed manual transmission, 77kW of power and 250Nm of torque headline the A3 Sportback 1.9 TDIe’s powerplant. It rides on low-friction Michelin tyres for reduced drag and comes with revised engine, better tuned electronics and lengthened third and fifth gear ratios to reach fuel economy of 53 mpg. There’s also a ‘recommended gear’ display on the dash to help the driver choose the most efficient ratio when using the manual gearbox. The new Audi A3 Sportback 1.9 TDI e comes with a price tag of $38,900 - making it the third most affordable Audi in Australia where is was launched recently.

Audi is aiming to have an e-model in each of its core model series in the foreseeable future. We at CarNoise wish them good luck.

It will make its debut later this month at the 27th annual Lake Worther Tour in Austria. The 2.0-liter TDI unit under the bonnet of the new Audi A3 diesel makes 165 kW (224 hp) of horsepower and musters up 450 Nm (331.90 lb-ft) of torque – the sort of pulling power normally associated with a sports car.

According to Audi, its A3 TDI clubsport quattro can race from 0 to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in just 6.6 seconds and attains a top speed of 240 km/h (149.13 mph). Exterior components such as the large DTM-look rear spoiler and the bolt-on wheel arch extensions give the car a dynamic air, while the racing bucket seats, the open gear lever gate in aluminum and and Audi’s characteristic flat-bottom steering wheel form the highlights of the interior.

The show car is a true high-tech sports car. Already lowered by 1.3 inches, the Clubsport Quattro concept has a mean stance thanks to a widened track (1.3 inches in front; 1.8 inches out back), bolt-on fender flares and 20-inch alloy wheels. Audi has packed the car with a six-speed transmission and the quattro all-wheel-drive system. At the front wheels, stopping power is provided by six-piston brake calipers and ceramic discs.

The Audi drive select driving dynamics system allows the driver to vary at will the throttle response characteristic, the exhaust sound, the level of power assistance for the steering, the cut-in thresholds for the ESP stabilization system, as well as the operating mode of the dampers that deploy Audi magnetic ride technology.
