By 2015, Mazda To Cut Fuel Consumption 30 Percent

2009 Mazda6 For US Unveiled Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that it is setting its sights on reducing the fuel consumption of Mazda vehicles sold globally by an average 30 percent by 2015. This determined commitment will entail a holistic approach which includes using lightweight technologies, the upgrade of almost all of Mazda's gasoline engines, introducing a Smart Idle Stop System, a new gasoline rotary engine and new diesel engines worldwide.

By 2015, Mazda will have renewed almost its entire powertrain lineup and, from 2011, through steadily developing safe, lightweight, new generation platforms aims to reduce the weight of its new vehicles by 100 kilograms or more.

Mazda saw its hydrogen powertrain efforts progress positively forward in June 2008 when the Mazda5 Hydrogen RE Hybrid received the green light from the Japanese government to begin testing on public roads. The Mazda5 Hydrogen RE Hybrid (known as the Premacy Hydrogen RE Hybrid in Japan) offers 40 percent more power and an extended hydrogen driving range of 200 kilometers. It will be available for commercial lease in Japan during the 2008 fiscal year.

And, Mazda is already progressing well with the development of an all-new Hydrogen RE vehicle with dynamic performance equivalent to a 3.0-liter gasoline engine and a hydrogen range of 400 kilometers.

The next technological milestone for Mazda will be the introduction of the mass production version of its proprietary Smart Idle Stop System into one of its cars in 2009.

Next Generation 2010 Mazda3 Sedan Spy Photos & More

2010 Mazda3 Prototype Spy Picture The current version of Mazda3 has been in service for past five years. So as expected, Mazda is busy preparing the second generation Mazda3 which will be launched in spring of 2009 as a 2010 model. The spy photos you see here are of the new Mazda3 prototype being tested. Heavy camoflage hides much of the model, however the overall body profile is quite visible and appears to have a more aggressive stance.

The car, when it’s revealed in a few months, hopefully at 2008 Paris Auto Show will share design cues from its sporty big brother, the Mazda6. This saloon shows off a sportier outline, and under the camouflage, there appears to be projector headlamps, new aggressive tail-lights and dual exhaust pipes.

The new Mazda3 sedan just like the hatchback will sit on the next-generation Ford Focus C1 platform and will be longer and wider than the current car. Under the bonnet of the new Mazda3 expect a revised version of the successful 2.0-litre engine, bringing improvements to power and, crucially, slight reductions in fuel consumption. The sportier version of the Mazda3 is likely to adopt the 2.5-litre engine from the latest Mazda6. These will be mated to a new six-speed transmission system as opposed to the five-speed found in the current generation.

US Model 2009 Mazda 6 vs Rest Of World

09 Mazda6If you are a regular blog follower, then you must have come across lot of posts stating how different Mazda's 2nd generation Mazda6 looks. Well today we'll try to compare the looks of US model of 2009 Mazda6 with its counterparts in rest of the world. Designed specifically for North America, the car shares many cues with the Japanese and European-market cars that hit the market last year.

The Mazda6 that Americans and Canadians will drive is, in fact, bigger than its overseas counterparts. Visually, the front and rear fascias differ from the Japanese and European models as well. The USDM car gets a bisected grille and has its foglamps pushed out to the corners below the bumper. The car gets a completely different trunk, rear bumper, and exhaust treatment that's more appealing than the plainer setup Japanese and Europeans get.

Up front, we've noticed that this Mazda6 prototype features an open grille with a single crossbar, as opposed to the honeycomb-like grille of the European version. The lower air intake is also entirely different. Finally, the hood features a pair of soft subtle creases, whereas the bonnet of the Euro-spec model gets a single, sharp crease down the center. The headlamps and taillights are completely different, and the rear of the car is also all new.

The U.S. version will feature a pair of sporty exhaust tips integrated into its rear apron, which itself also features more curves than the Euro version.

Mazda Launches New 3door Mazda2 In UK

Mazda Launches New 3door Mazda2 In UKMazda is introducing three-door versions of its all-new Mazda2 small car in Europe this month. This is the first time that company has offered a three-door variant of its popular Mazda2 model range. It comes with a starting price of £7,999 on-the-road. The 5-door Mazda2, which was introduced in September 2007, differs from the new 3dr sibling by virtue of 25mm more seat shoulder room and a pair of extra doors.

The Mazda2 3dr will become available on the UK market with a twin version 1.3-litre petrol having power output of 75ps (priced at £7,999) and 86ps (for £9,509) and a 1.4-litre 68ps diesel engines with base price £8,999. The all-powerful 1.5-litre 103ps petrol will be added to the 3dr range in this July with a price tag of £11,399. The Mazda2 5dr achieved a 5-Star Euro NCAP crash test safety rating last year and the new three-door Mazda2 benefits from the same level of safety design, engineering and equipment. The front doors of the three-door model are 163mm longer than those on the five‑door and the B-Pillar has been moved back by a similar amount.

The generous standard equipment on the new Mazda2 3dr model parallels the Mazda2 5dr specification closely with only four differences. The three-door model features ‘tilt-and-slide’ front seats to allow access to the rear seats, unique side sills in the Sports Styling Kit and the exclusive availability (for a limited period during the launch), of Crystal White Pearlescent exterior paint on all models. Unlike the five-door, the Sport three-door model is not equipped with electric rear windows.

The new Mazda2 3dr models weigh just 5-to-10kg less than the Mazda2 5dr models, so the lively performance (0 to 62mph from 10.4 seconds, top speed up to 117mph), good fuel economy (up to 65.7mpg), low exhaust emissions and modest CO2 levels (from just 114g/km) of the two versions are identical.

Mazda anticipates that up to 50 per cent of new Mazda2 buyers will choose the three-door body style and that a large number will opt for the highly specified ‘Sport’ version. British dealers are offering the Mazda2 3dr with a with typical 6.9% APR finance until 30 June 2008.

Mazda Brings Mazda3 MPS To Targa Tasmania Rally

Mazda Brings Mazda3 MPS To Targa Tasmania Rally Mazda Motorsport Australia is using the hot hatch Mazdaspeed3 (called Mazda3 MPS there)at the tarmac-based rally known as the Targa Tasmania. This will be the eighth race for Mazda and the second for the MPS rally car. The MPS develops 255 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque, with power transferred to the road via a standard six-speed manual transmission. It weighs 3,093 pounds and uses 320mm (12.6 inch) ventilated brakes in front and 280mm (11.0 inch) solid discs in the rear.

Built under the watchful eye of Mazda Motorsport chief Allan Horsley, the 190kW Mazda3 MPS front-wheel-drive hot hatches will contest the event's 2WD Showroom competition, travelling 2000km over five gruelling days of competition. Targa Tasmania's racing regulations require that the Mazda 3 MPS rally car remain essentially standard. That means both cars are competing with standard audio equipment, power windows and carpets and upholstery intact. This makes it a bit more comfortable for Alister McRae and his co-driver.

necessary safety equipment fitted on the Mazda includs a PCD roll cage, racing seats, five-point harnesses and a fire extinguisher, but the performance modifications are kept to a minimum. The MPS is equipped with upgraded springs and struts, brake pads, a new steering wheel, navigation equipment, cat-back exhaust (cats are still fitted), some additional ducting to cool off the brakes and a revised ECU. Among the competitors in the "Showroom 2WD" class are a Mazda 3 diesel, a Peugeot 206 GTi 180, a Fiat Punto Sport and a Toyota TRD Aurion.
