Bugatti Expands Model Range With New Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport

New Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport PhotoYesterday at the 2008 Monterey Auto Show, the evening prior to the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance, the Bugatti unveiled a second model to the world – the new Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport with a unique removable roof. In response to customer demand, significant modifications have been made to the vehicle's complex structure to make possible open-top driving, thereby adding a new dimension to this high-performance sports car.

Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport is immediately recognizable as a result of its slightly higher windscreen, stylized daytime running lights, and lightweight, transparent polycarbonate roof.

The new Bugatti also gets the carbon fibre doors and house an integrated longitudinal beam. In the event of an accident, this transfers the load from the A to the B-pillar, thereby dissipating impact energy. Furthermore, the two redesigned air intakes for the 16-cylinder mid-engine now feature 10-centimetre wide carbon-fibre elements to offer protection should the car roll.

Along with moisture-resistant, backstitched leather, a range of new equipment features has been added to the interior, including a reversing camera with 2.7-inch monitor in the rear-view-mirror, and the "Puccini" sound system with digital signal processor. When the roof is closed, the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport can reach 407 km/h, while speeds of up to 360 km/h are possible with roof off. Should it rain, an innovative folding roof stored in the luggage compartment can be opened up like an umbrella at any time.

When this folding roof is in place, the car can travel at up to 130 km/h. Assembled by hand at the company's headquarters in Molsheim, Alsace, the Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport will be available from March 2009 at the price of 1.4 million euros (excluding tax). Just 150 examples will be made, with the first 50 of these going exclusively to registered Bugatti customers. The first vehicle is certain to be highly sought after, and Bugatti has taken the decision to donate this specific car to charity. It will be sold to the highest bidder at the Pebble Beach Auction presented by Gooding & Company.

2008 9ff Tuned Porsche GT9 Beats Bugatti Veyron's Top Speed Record

9ff Tuned Porsche GT9 Beats Bugatti Veyron's Top Speed Record Porsche 9ff GT9 came very close to breaking world speed record with its top speed of 409km/h (254mph) during official testing in Papenburg last month. Now 409 is a very big number when you see it on a speed-o-meter. And even though its attempt to reach the number one position has not succeeded yet, its celebration time for 9ff's dedicated tuners as their highly modified Porsche GT9 supercar has over taken Bugatti Veyron's 407km/h (252mph) top speed.

The world record for the fastest production car, however, is still held by America’s SSC Ultimate Aero TT, which reached a top speed of 411km/h (255mph) last September. Good times for Aero TT might end sooner if it is not looking over its shoulder. The competition is fast closing in.

The German tuner 9FF’s GT9 is loosely based on the Porsche 911 GT3, with just 2% of common components between them. It has been stretched by 300mm with roof lower by 120mm to maximize downforce at high speeds. Also instead of using the rear engine layout as in 911 GT3, the 9ff engineers tried to get better weight distribution by using a custom designed mid-mounted twin-turbo 4.2L flat-six engine. It is mated to a six-speed transmission. The engine makes 987bhp and 711 lb/ft of torque and the entire car weighs just 1,326kg courtesy of carbon-fibre and Kevlar construction.

There is more work for guys at 9ff as their GT9 is still 1.7 seconds slower than Bugatti Veyron in 0-60 race and 1mph short of the SSC Ultimate Aero TT's record top speed. The production of only 20 examples of the ultra exclusive 9ff Porsche GT9 will be done with each commanding a price tag of $854,000.

2009 Bugatti Veyron Targa Confirmed

2009 Bugatti Veyron Targa Confirmed Today a small bit of news came through that Volkswagen has confirmed Bugatti is indeed working on a Veyron Targa. Good news for Veyron fans. The drop-top Veyron is due to launch sometime next year. Here's some maths for you. Out of the 300 Veyrons that Bugatti promised, 220 of them have already been spoken for and that leaves only 20 Veyron that will be launched in Targa version. But it’s still unknown if this Targa version will count towards the total figure. More details about 2009 Bugatti Veyron Targa along with its photo can be checked below.

Bugatti Veyron Targa Scheduled for 2009
Bugatti spokes person Georges Keller confirmed that his company is working on a 'convertible'. Bugatti is forced to make it a targa (detachable roof) rather than a convertible (folding roof) because there is no storage space for the roof in the car. The Veyron Spider will have an emergency cloth cover to protect the interior just in case. A former Bugatti executive said, “because there was no other solution which could fit with its safety cage."

Bugatti Veyron Targa?
Bugatti Veyron Little else is known about the Veyron convertible, logic would dictate that it will be priced above the standard model but may possibly be slightly slower to 100km, it will also not reach its top speed of 407km/h with the roof on.

BUGATTI VEYRON TARGA CONFIRMED
Webasto (the people responsible for Volkswagen’s Eos roof) are developing a glass roof section. The laminated panel will be too big to store in the targa, so a fabric clip-on roof will be supplied incase owners get caught out in a shower.
