BMW Achieves 50% Localization At Chennai

German automaker Bayerische Motoren Werke aka BMW's Rs. 3.9 billion manufacturing plant in Chennai has scaled up to 50% localization levels. This is a great milestone and will have a positive effect on the pricing of some of BMW's best selling models in India like 1,3,5 & 7-Series, X1, X3 and X5.

Through increased localization, BMW India is also expected to save on taxes, which go up to as much as 120% on an imported car and 60% on a partly assembled car. Also this will give it more elbow room on the pricing front against Audi & Mercedes which have pushed BMW to third position in the Indian luxury car market.
